How to Care for a Wrought Iron Fence

Wrought iron fences are incredibly durable and can make any yard look great. However, if you have a wrought iron fence, the key to making it last for years is to properly take care of it. Listed below are some tips for taking care of your wrought iron fence .

Get Rid of Rust

Rust can cause severe damage to wrought iron fences. If rust starts developing on any part of your fence, you should remove it promptly with a wire brush. Following this step will not only prevent rust from harming your fence in the future, but also keep your fence looking great.

Apply a Rust Converter

An easy way to protect your fence from corrosion is to coat it with a rust converter solution at least a few times a year. Usually, the easiest way to do this is to dip a paintbrush into the converter solution and rub it onto the entire fence. However, since application instructions vary for product to product, be sure to follow the instructions that come with the specific rust converter you are using.

Clean the Fence Often

Over time, dirt and other debris can stick to a fence, making it look unappealing. Fortunately, cleaning a wrought iron fence is relatively simple. All you have to do is fill a bucket with warm water and a small amount of detergent. Afterwards, dip a soft cloth into the cleaning solution and scrub the dirty area of the fence with the cloth. Once you have completed this task, your fence will look brand-new again.
